The UK’s first Fox Strut takes place in Bournemouth’s town centre

Women and members of the LGBTQ+ community took a public walk-through Bournemouth on Friday in a stand against gender-based violence.

They dressed as orange-themed fox costumes to commemorate the World Health Organization's global 16 days of activism.

Starting at Horseshoe Common near Christchurch Road the group made its way through Bournemouth town centre.

The group wants to empower women who feel unsafe walking the streets at night.

Empowerment photographer and co-creator of the event Jayne Jackson said: “Bournemouth is actually the UK’s capital of urban foxes.

“We see them all the time and after dark we probably see them more than women on the streets.

“This is about making social change and coming together and making a difference.”

Attendee, Lynee Forbes, actor and director of Angel Exist Theatre said: “I’m really looking forward to marching with all the incredible women to walk as foxes together and to empower each other on this amazing evening.

“When I heard about Bournemouth being the proportion of urban foxes across the country, I just thought that it was an amazing connection about that and women being out at night.”

Following the success of the Fox Strut in Bournemouth, future events in London have been announced for November 22nd, 2024.
