I am a 21-year-old Multimedia Journalism student in my third and final year at Bournemouth University. Currently, I serve as the Head of Social Media & Branding for Nerve Radio, a student-run station, where I have also been a presenter for the past three years. I also write entertaining articles about student culture for The Tab Bournemouth.

As part of my multimedia project, I created a two-minute news package capturing the powerful march in London, where thousands of protesters from England, Scotland, and Wales united to stand against racism, fascism, and the growing influence of far-right groups.

Organised by Stand Up to Racism, the demonstration highlighted the unity and determination of people from all walks of life, delivering a message of hope for a future free from hate and discrimination.

Last night, the Nerve committee headed to the O2 Arena for the @studentradioassociation Awards which was a celebration of last year’s committee’s dedication, well-deserved nominations, and incredible wins 🏆🌟

So grateful to have shared such an amazing experience with the Nerve Radio team 💙

This morning, I had an amazing opportunity to tour @bauermedia.uk home to @kissfmuk, @magicfm, and @absoluteradio🎙️💜

It was so inspiring to see how these stations work behind the scenes.

Last night, from 7 PM until 6 AM this morning, I had the chance to participate in Bournemouth University’s 10-hour live programme covering the US Election 🇺🇸📺🗳️

As one of the online editors, I was lucky to work alongside a fantastic team. Me and @sam.reporter collaborated closely with the social media team, coordinated interviews with pundits, brainstormed article ideas, and managed fellow students👩🏻‍💻📝

It was an amazing experience working with the Media and Communication faculty students and staff. Thank you to everyone involved, it was a successful and memorable night 🌅

What Inspired My Major Multimedia Project? 💫

I wanted to choose something that truly resonated with me, something I could delve into with passion and purpose. Looking for inspiration, I turned not only to my past work but to real life. I thought about what drives me, who inspires me, and then it hit me: my parents.

My father left Cyprus at 20, right after his mandatory military service, with no knowledge of English, no qualifications, no money, and no family support. He started from scratch to build a better life in the UK. My mother’s story is similar—she left Turkey at 18 after receiving a scholarship to university. She knew little English but wasn’t fluent enough and had no family support, yet she was determined to build a better future.

My parent’s journey was filled with countless hardships, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their sacrifices. No words can express how grateful I am for everything they’ve done.

From their stories, I realised there are countless others who have left their home countries in search of a better life. I want to highlight the experiences of these individuals, exploring why they left, whether due to war, economic hardship, or family and personal circumstances.

My project will focus on their challenges in integrating into a new society, the emotional toll of being separated from loved ones, the racism and discrimination they’ve faced, and how romanticised views of the UK often clash with harsh realities. I also want to highlight the support available to them through different organisations, giving a voice to those whose stories need to be heard.

I’m also so grateful to be on the committee this year as Head of Social Media & Branding, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to be working with🎙️

It’s been a great start to the year, managing the @nerveradiobu Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn. Working at the Freshers’ Fair stand, and helping out in the studio for the first week of shows.

Excited to see what the rest of the year has in store 💫
