On the one-year anniversary of Ukraine’s invasion, the sculpture “I Want to Live” was created by Standing with Giants, a volunteer community project group.

Dan Barton, founder of Standing with Giants, collaborated with artist Peter Naylor to create the Ukrainian Tribute.

Allowing the Ukrainian tribute to be displayed, is Bournemouth Town Centre BID, who have also supported funding with Standing with Giants.

Karol Swiacki, CEO and founder of Ukraine Relief said: “Dan Barton and his beautiful wife are the people who made it here and brought the corporation’s BCP council with them.”

The sculpture installed in Bournemouth will be on display in the Triangle until April 5th.

Ukraine Relief hosted a gathering at the sculpture on March 26th for a commemorative photo to show community support.

Mr Swiacki said: “We would like to say to Ukraine we still stand with you.

“We invited friends from Ukraine relief, volunteers, and everyone who supports Ukraine.”

Alastair Young, one of the volunteers and trustees at Ukraine relief said: “Today we're here standing in solitary with Ukrainian friends, making sure they don’t feel abounded.

“Letting them know we're here, we're supporting them and we continue to be standing with them for as long as it takes.”

The event began with a community meeting and some tea and coffee to begin with some friendly conversation.

The weather and atmosphere improved as more people arrived, including the Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Robert Lawton.

The Mayor of Bournemouth has also attended every Ukrainian aid function in the town.

With excitement, the community grew and more people arrived.

A collective photo was then taken to demonstrate solidarity as a local community.
