A little historical overview of Germany - Berlin

The Sanssouci Palace is a must see attraction if you are in Germany. Sanssouci, a historical building in Potsdam, was built by Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. The palace itself is named from the French "sans souci", which translates to "without worry” or “without concern".

Built during the reign of Frederick the Great in the 18th century and expanded during the reign of Frederick William IV in the 19th century. The palace provides an insight into the type of residence that Frederick the Great aimed to create when he designed his famous summer palace.

Following his first visit to Italy in 1828, Frederick William IV created a number of drawings that helped him express his ideas for the Sanssouci design. Once taking control over the government in 1840, he had decided to use Sanssouci as a summer home and had multiple renovations made. Many of these renovations are visible today, and visitors can easily see Sanssouci's beautiful palaces and gardens.

There is also a well-known windmill near Sanssocui Palace. The noise of the windmill was said to irritate Frederick the Great, who insisted on having it removed until he was threatened with taking the case to the Supreme Court.

Another place to visit would be The Berlin Cathedral which is located in the city centre and is undoubtedly the most popular church in the city, with its interior and exterior decorations, as well as the most visible dome. This dome can also be climbed, providing visitors with an incredible view of Berlin's city centre.
