The best tourist attractions in Athens - Greece
Acropolis of Athens
The main tourist attraction in Athens. The recommendation is to queue early, but everyone else is thinking the same thing. The entrance opens at 8am, but I came at 9am. By that point, the queue had already wrapped around the entire monument. After waiting for an hour and a half, I finally entered. Keep in mind that during this time of year, the sun is extremely hot, so make sure to wear enough of sunscreen. Since there will be a lot of walking and no footpaths, I advise wearing trainers rather than sandals so that you can walk comfortably and small rocks won't get caught between your toes.
Odeum of herodes atticus
Going up the Acropolis, you can see the Odeum of Herodes Atticus, a theatre that is still in use for musical performances.
Acropolis museum
The Acropolis museum is a short walk from the Acropolis and exhibits many findings from the ancient site itself.
Plaka
The Plaka is one of Athens' most popular neighbourhoods. The streets are alive with live music from a variety of individually owned businesses and restaurants.
Hadrian’s Arch
Which is another historical site worth seeing that doesn't charge admission and is located close to the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Temple of Olympian Zeus
Where the temple and the last few surviving bathhouse remains can still be seen.
National garden Zoo
Another short walk away is the large public park in the centre of Athens. Taking a relaxing walk and seeing a variety of wildlife such as birds, ducks, turtles, and bearded goats.
